Where does the name Ornico come from?
It is the first part of the names of the original partners – Oresti (OR), Nick (NI) and Costa (CO). In 1981 when Oresti’s two founding partners left, he was joined by his brother Spero. The pair kept the brand and branched out into low budget music videos, as well as corporate and training movies. 1984 saw the company establishing itself as an Advertising Monitoring company.
This led to the launch of the Cape Town office in 1994 and the introduction of the Editorial and Analysis departments followed shortly. The opening of the offices in Lagos in 2008 and the Nairobi office in 2014 saw us cementing our African footprint with a blast!
We have since gone on to win 2 Gold awards at the AMEC Awards and are looking forward to a future of AI coupled with superior human insights at our new headquarters, Ornico City.
Drive Video Acquisition
Ornico acquires Drive Video to become the market leader in advertising monitoring in South Africa.
Ornico becomes the first company in Africa that provides advertising and media monitoring services.
Ornico expands its operations to the Rest of Africa with a presence in Lagos, Nigeria.
Ornico expands its operations with an office presence in Nairobi, Kenya.
At the same time, Ornico strengthens its international and measurement membership by Becoming a member of AMEC ( International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of CommunicatioN) & FIBEP (world’s largest professional body for media monitoring)

Ornico was awarded Gold for both the “Best use of measurement for a single event” and “Best measurement of a not-for-profit campaign”, beating stiff competition from global campaigns featuring Pope Francis, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Unicef.

Ornico moves its HQ operations to the heart of Johannesburg.
